This was the day I was born, and that is really all i have to say about this massive show other than i was born at exactly 6:04pm central time. Pretty sure I made it just in time.

Subject: F.O.Balcony AUD? Sounds Like A 20th Row FOB !!!
Jeez... One of the best Playin' > Milkin' I've ever heard. First time they ever sounded like ABB. Very different. And Cosmic Charlie and High Time on top of it all...definitely The Boyz at their jazziest. Wow. With all this Archive accessability, I'm starting to fall in love '76.!!! I don't know how anybody can like anything after '84 after hearing this fabulous stuff? It's beyond me?
So let's get down to why I'm really reviewing this evening. We need to be a little more specific about this AUD guys. The Orpheum is a 2503 seat theater that is about as cozy as cozy can be. You couldn't get a closer 1st balcony seat anywhere in the country. Even with the best shotguns, in any other place this "balcony" recording would have quite a bit of air to it. Just check out 8.19.80 for comparison. THAT Chicago show is a true F.O.Balcony recording. It's probably the average 3000-3500 seat indoor setting. Well, the Orpheum is not your average indoor setting! But...
I was still quite surprised at the fidelity of this puppy when I started fooling with the EQ. Normally, you have to be very careful with the lowest frequencies, or you'll easily distort. I always have to bring them down on AUDs. Here, I brought the sliders wayyy up just for the hellofit...and to my total surprise, the sound held together. I have NEVER done that with an audience recording!
I am giving this beautiful recording five stars just for the sound alone. It's a damn good show, but with the fidelity as good as it is, it really makes this night a special animal. It's everything I look for in audience recordings. Thanks Bob. Damn fine job of capturing The Boyz! And thanks Chenner for directing me to this evening's entertainment. Hey Bob, any fun story about your recording the evening. Love those little war stories. :-)

Werewolf comes in from the cold, rain and snow; never had much Aud. material. In fact, only one good one! (5.5.77) So it got worn thin... This site has been a saviour and havin' a G.D renaissance. Many, many thanx

Subject: Naming
Thanx for the download, I have begun listening and it sounds great. However, I am curious as to why you tracked "Playin'" and "'Turkey" two different ways? This took me an extra 30 minutes to figure out. I then deleted the 17min track.
Also, while we are on the topic of naming...

The sense of warmth and presence in this recording is amazing...it's almost criminal to give this away for free. Row Jimmy is just exactly perfect.

Man - I am diggin the '76! groovy in tripped out jams, and with the last available Cosmic Charlie.
Really good sound quality for an AUD too... and the ambient crowd noise is a plus in my book - really gives you a feel for the show.

I really am enjoying this show. What a second set!!!: Playin -> Stronger than Dirt -> Cosmic Charlie -> Samson&Delilah -> Spanish jam ->Drums Whewww!! I'm already worn out, plus a late setII "High Time".Throw in that early setI "Deal" and your definately set up. 5 for the sets and 3 and a halfsy for sound even though half of all you SBD snobs would have probably given anything for an AUD this kickin' in the mid to late '80's, I would have. I've always had a descent copy of the next nites AUD on Cassette but it's finally nice to catch the rest of the undercirrculated shows all together.A Keeper for me. Let's Trade...

He speaks for me. Had this show for years. SOMETHING makes me go back and listen. I really enjoy it. I love the 2nd set song selection. I never had a lot of 76 in my collection but this has been there and it's tasty.

1976 is an under-rated year, but well-played, if at times a tad slow and tenative. This aud recording is really fun. I am not usually a big fan of AUDs, but the sound is good enough tthat your almost there in the cozy confines of the Orpheum. I keep seeing the jam after PITB listed as "Stronger than Dirt", but the resemblance is vague, at least to my ears. There is some similarity, but the tempo and sound are different enough that I am not sure it qualifies. This is not to say it is a great jam whatever it is.

yeah, there is a nice warm and fuzzy feeling to the recording...when the music is playing. otherwise, between songs it is annoying as hell to listen to all the heads screaming out stupid song requests.
the jam to finish scarlet is off the chain...
real nice. '76 is sooooo underrated/overshadowed.
